Dr. Greger from nutritionfacts.org explains the power of spices for increasing the antioxidant level of the foods we eat, including the powerhouse spice, cinnamon. But wait! Adding just a pinch of ground clove, along with the cinnamon, will increase the antioxidant level by 2000%. Oatmeal purèe with these spices is perfect for baby purèe.  Turn it into a sauce for a fruit salad and it’s perfect for Mom & Dad too!

Ingredients

For the Oatmeal purèe:
  • ⅔ cup organic, gluten free rolled oats
  • 1-½ cups water
  • 1 teaspoon. ground cinnamon, or more to taste
  • Pinch ground clove
For the Fruit Bowl:
  • All your favorite berries

Directions

For the Purèe and Sauce:
  1. Make the oatmeal according to the directions on the package, adding in the cinnamon and pinch of ground clove. 
  2. Place the cooked oatmeal In a blender or food processor, and blend, adding more water to desired consistency. 
To Serve:

For Baby: pour the oatmeal purèe into ice cube trays and freeze.  Defrost and serve cold or warm up.

For Mom & Dad: Place the  berries into a bowl and top with  a generous amount of  oatmeal “sauce” and enjoy!
