Dr. Greger from nutritionfacts.org explains the power of spices for increasing the antioxidant level of the foods we eat, including the powerhouse spice, cinnamon. But wait! Adding just a pinch of ground clove will increase the antioxidant level by 2000%. Oatmeal purèe with cinnamon and clove is a fabulous combination and perfect for baby purèe and fruit salad sauce for the parents!

Ingredients

For the Oatmeal purée

  •  ⅔  cup organic rolled oats
  • 1-½ cups water
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon, or more to taste
  • Pinch ground clove

For the Fruit Salad

  • All you favorite berries

Instructions

For Baby Purée:

  1. Make the oatmeal according to the directions on the package, adding in the cinnamon and pinch of ground clove. 
  2. Place the cooked oatmeal In a blender or food processor, and blend, adding more water to desired consistency for the baby purèe.  

Note: we freeze the purèe in ice cube trays, and defrost it a day or two before serving. It will most likely need more water as the oats continue to absorb the water and get thick.

For Parents:

  1. Make your berry fruit bowl.
  2. Pour a generous amount of  oatmeal “sauce” all over the berries and enjoy!
