As a kid I remember Icee’s coming onto the scene.  Coca cola Icee was my favorite.   It was hot in the summer and my sweet older brother, Jay, used to ride his bike a few miles away to the convenience store, get the Icees and bring them right back home to my younger brother, Stephen and I.  Such a treat, but not so healthy!  Filled with sugar and caffeine for a little kid.  Yikes!  My garden is full of sweet strawberries, and a strawberry Icee was calling my name.  This healthy beverage is very refreshing and filled with nutrients and antioxidants, plus so much more!  You and your kids will love it!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups strawberries, washed and stemmed
  • 1 cup cold water
  • ¼ cup lemon juice, or more to taste
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup, or more to taste.
  • 2 cups of ice

Directions

In  a blender, puree the strawberries, water, lemon juice and maple syrup. Taste to see if more maple sugar and lemon juice are needed for the balance of sweet and tart.  Pour in the ice cubes and blend just until crushed and the consistency of an Icee.
