Did you know that strawberries are part of the rose family (Rosaceae?) I’m having some girlfriends over, whom I love, to celebrate a birthday.  Pink Champagne is in order, right?–Not!  Many of us are going alcohol free these days, but still want to enjoy the act of toasting and celebrating.  So I thought, hmmm, I wonder if using rose family fruit would create a rosé tasting mock-champagne.  After a little experimenting Sparkling sweet Rose-Yay! was born, much to my friends’ delight. Like your rosé dry?  Check out our Sparkling Brut Rose-yay, as well, made with raspberries—more tart than strawberries and are the perfect fruit to create a  “Brut Sparkling Rose-Yay!   By the way, raspberries are also a fruit from the rose family!

Equipment needed: juicer, (or nut bag*), and strainer

  • 3 pounds seedless red grapes
  • 32 ounces Perrier

Directions

Make the Base Juice:
  1. Juice the strawberries using a juicer and strain through a fine mesh sieve to make 1 cup of juice.  Reserve.
    • If you don’t own a juicer, place the strawberries in a blender and blend to a juice. Pour strawberry juice and pulp into a nut bag and squeeze out the juice, discarding the pulp.
  2. Juice the red grapes and strain through a fine mesh sieve to make 3 cups of juice. Reserve.
    • If you don’t own a juicer, place grapes in a blender and blend to a juice. Place in a nut bag and squeeze out the juice, discarding the pulp.
  3. Mix the juices together and chill until very cold.
To Serve:

Fill champagne glasses ⅓ full with the mixed juices. Top off with Perrier and toast to your friendship and health.
